The 2006 NCAA basketball tournment starts today. 64 teams, 6 rounds, 2 weeks of win-or-go-home basketball. This is really one of the sporting events I look forward to every year. I’m picking UCONN, Ohio State, Gonzaga and Texas to reach the final four (I think most of the east coast teams are over rated). UCONN is my pick to win it all, 78 to 72 over Texas. We’ll see how far off I am. My upset pick for round 1 is 12th seed Utah St over 5th seed Washington.

Congrats to the Gophers who won their opening round game of the NIT over Wake Forest. Next up is Cincinnati, which will be a tough tough game.

Culpepper Traded

Posted by Dave on March 15th, 2006

Daunte Culpepper was traded yesterday to the Miami Dophins for a second round (48th pick overall) draft pick.  Its too bad things came to this.  Things started to go sour when Culpepper asks for a raise after playing 6 games last year, only 2 of which he won and having twice as many interceptions as touchdowns before injuring his knee.  I don’t think Daunte was worth what he was asking for, and both sides handled the situation poorly.  Minnesota does free up more cap space, but they already had the most cap space of anyone in the league.  I’m concerned if the Vikings enter the year with only Brad Johnson and young unproven QBs on the roster.  Even with a running game that should be improved with RB Chester Taylor and OG Steve Hutchinson.  Seattle has a chance to match the offer the Vikings made to Hutchinson, but reports make that sound unlikely.  The Vikings and Hutchison’s agent stuck a sneaky clause into the contract stating he must be the highest payed OG on the roster or Seattle has to guarantee the full 49mil dollar contract over 7 years.  Currently Walter Jones is the highest paid OG for Seattle making over 7.5mil per year.  Seattle has until March 20th to reach a decision.

Mom’s Website

For my Mom’s birthday on the 26th of February I started her a website. Her old host had taken away some functionality during a so-called ‘upgrade’ leaving her with a site she couldn’t update without starting over and with a limit of 3 webpages.

I installed WordPress and Gallery 2 for her.  These 2 programs are modular, so you can customize them easily to make them look however you want.  I think it turned out pretty nice.  Check it out at www.suehecker.com.
