Christmas Vacation

Posted by Dave on December 30th, 2005

I spent Christmas with family in Minnesota. We had a family get together on Saturday with my grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins for dinner and open presents. Monday my Dad and brothers Tony and Robert went to see The Chronicles of Narnia. I enjoyed the film despite it being geared toward a younger audience. On Tuesday we went bowling and shot some pool. I bowled my best game with a 152. I think previously my best game was around 130. Tony had the high game with 187. I was surprised by how well my youngest brother Rob played pool. I think he might actually be better then me. I suppose I’ll have to practice. Today my folks left for Port Aransas where they recently bought a condo on the gulf and will spend the winter months away from the freezing cold of Minnesota. I got my Mom a Agatha Christie book on CD for them to listen to on the drive down. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and I wish you all the best of luck in the new year!

Vikings Stink it up

Posted by Dave on December 19th, 2005

The Vikings looked horrible Sunday against the Steelers. Worse yet, I now owe a Steeler fan here at work lunch. The Vikings chances for making the playoffs are not looking good, they’d need a lot of help from other teams. I was very disappointed with their play yesterday. Turnovers and penalties cost us. Hopefully the Vikes can win their last two and give themselves a chance to make it to the post season.

Home Improvement

My garbage disposal quit on me last week, so yesterday I put a new one in. Getting the old one out and new one in turned out to be pretty easy. All the hoses and pipes fit in the same places. The only thing that upset me is that the new disposal didn’t come with everything it really needed. I had to steal a few parts from the old unit like the power cord clamp and the gasket where it connects with the P-pipe. Also It didn’t come with any plumbers putty which you need to seal the gap between the sink and garbage disposal collar. Anyways it works perfectly, hopefully nothing else will break for a while.

Let it snow..

Posted by Dave on December 9th, 2005

We got about 3 inches of snow last night here in DC, so of course they closed schools and government offices. They tend to overreact to bad weather out here, theres been times when they cancel school just for the forecast of snow. Of course they’re not quite as prepared for the snow as they were when I was in school in Minnesota. It would have to snow at least 18 inches before they thought about closing school. People here can’t drive in the snow either, everyones spinning tires and trying to pass snow plows. Idiots. Anyways, my little car did OK and got me in safe. Its going on 8 years old now, but I’m going to try to keep it for at least another year.
