Christmas

Posted by Dave on October 25th, 2005

I’ll be visiting my folks in Savage, MN from Dec 23rd to the 28th. It was a pain buying the tickets. I had to report my Visa card missing last week after I misplaced it and won’t get a replacement probably for another week yet. They expect you to have one when you buy tickets online or over the phone as a way to confirm your identity. The reservations person from United acted like it was the first time something like this had happened. I’m sure not everyone who flies has a credit card. I was able to make reservations, but I’ll have to stop by the airport on the way home from work to pay for them. Fortunately I live close to the airport or it would have been much more of an inconvenience. It will be nice to have some time off.. I haven’t taken a day off from work since Memorial day. I still need to find someone to watch Tucson. If interested let me know.

Saturday

OK, I know Its been over a week since I’ve written anything. The new guitar has been keeping me busy at home. At work I’ve been training a new guy at work, which keeps me off the internet. I went to the Buffalo Chicken Wing Factory on Thursday with some friends to watch the Virginia Tech/Maryland game. VA Tech didn’t play their best, but Maryland was clearly outmatched. VA Tech has a very good chance of going undefeated this year. Of course everyone there had to bring up last weeks Minnesota vs Wisconsin game, where the Minnesota Punter dropped the ball in the end-zone to in the last minute of the game.

The Vikings have had a poor start, but a win against Green Bay will solve a lot of their problems for them. Nate Burleson will be back, hopefully he can provide the offense with a little spark. If the team can keep their clothes on for the whole 60 minutes, I think they have a good shot of winning.

TGIF

Posted by Dave on October 14th, 2005

Friday is here. Although I have to work tomorrow, I still look forward to Fridays as being the end of the work week. On Saturdays I come in a half an hour later then usual l and the work is much more laid back. During the week it gets pretty hectic. I borrowed Brian’s amp last night for my guitar. It sounds amazing through the amp, I’m really happy with it. I know about a dozen chords, now I’ve started concentrating on practicing some scales and arpeggios to try to get my fingers moving quicker. I found that Netflix has some guitar instructional DVDs available for rental. I picked out three beginner ones and added them to my list.

Hooray!

I came home last night to find a large box outside my front door. I delayed Tucsons daily afternoon walk for a few minutes while I opened the box up to find my brand new guitar. I really didn’t expect to get it until Friday or Saturday, I just ordered it from MusiciansFriend.com Monday with the free shipping option (2-5 days), and according to their website they’re located in Oregon. It plays even better to the demo I tried in the store last week, I think because it has brand new strings. I don’t have an amp yet, but Brian has an extra one that he has offered to loan me. I’ll get a picture of it soon for the site.

Ikaruga

I bought this game used off Ebay last week. It is a shoot-em up style game where you contoll a little fighter ship through verticly scrolling stages while wave after wave of enimies are coming at you. The game play is very challenging and original. There are no powerups, but you can charge a super weapon by absorbing energy from the enemy ships by setting your shields to match. If you take a hit, your ship is destroyed. You can only avoid damage by dodging the enemy attack or by matching your shields to their energy type, light or dark.

The game is one of the most fun to play. And I can play it for just 5 minutes if I want. Most of my other games require more time. For instance to play a game of Madden NFL requires a half an hour commitment.

I give this game 4/5 stars. I am only taking off because there are only 5 stages. Read more about Ikaruga here.

New Guitar

I’ve been learning to play guitar on a used acoustical for the past 2 years or so. I’m still not very good, but I play it enough to warrant spending a little money on a new guitar.

Over the weekend I went to one of the local music stores and tried some guitars. I liked the Epiphone G-400 best. It ended up being cheaper to order it on-line, It should be here at the end of the week.

It got very good reviews for a lower priced guitar. I can’t wait to play it!
